2010 marked the 21st Birthday of Kids Under Cover (KUC), and the 15th annual Umbrella Ball was to be the perfect way
to celebrate.  In the Melbourne fundraising calendar, the Kids Under Cover Ball is renown, and in 2007 the event was
inducted into the Fundraising Institute of Australia’s Hall of Fame.

As the Umbrella Ball is the biggest event in the KUC calendar, the goals were clear and the expectations high in recruiting an
external events manager for the first time.

Perfect Events was engaged to refresh the concept with a new and interesting take on an established brand, and grow the
event through engaging a broader audience.

With an 80’s theme and a grand location in Crown Palladium, Perfect Events grew the ball from the previous attendance
average of 650 to well over 1000 – more than 60% of these were new to the event. In addition, tickets were sold out one month
prior to the event, long-term supporter of KUC, Hocking Stuart became principal partner of the event. More than $200,000 was
raised for KUC on the night.

Some key highlights of the event were
-   Guest presenter, 80s music icon Molly Meldrum is an ambassador of Kids Under Cover and conducted a ‘countdown’ style
DVD presentation to engage a new audience with  education of the Kids Under Cover history and message.
-   A stellar line up of 80’s entertainment including Scott Carne, Psuedo Echo, Brian Mannix, Dale Ryder and Paul Norton, kept
the dance floor filled beyond capacity.
-   Full theming of the room in 80s style included Vinyl Records as table placemats and centerpieces, proving to be cost effective
and a highly affective incorporation into the theme.
